The build up to the new Yankees Stadium in New York was huge, as is everything associated with the most historic and successful of baseball franchises. The money spent on the stadium was staggering, and that money went to creating one of the most state of the art and fan friendly stadiums in all of sports. Well, fan friendly save for how pricey most of the tickets are. However, how a stadium looks and what it contains may be nice, but it’s what takes place on the field that fans care about.
To that end, things haven’t been very good at the new Yankee Stadium thus far. In the inaugural game at the stadium, the Yankees lost 10-2 to the Cleveland Indians. A terrible loss for any team to suffer, especially in a game with such pomp and excitement surrounding it.
However, things got even worse on Saturday. On that day, the Yankees let up 14 runs… in the second inning. That was the most runs in an inning New York has let up in their franchise’s long history, and also the most runs any team has ever scored in the second inning of any baseball game ever. In the end, Cleveland piled on a few more runs to win 22-4.
No team likes to lose, and certainly losing such in such embarrassing blow outs is even worth. The Steinbrenner family who owns the Yankees has never taken losing well, so you can rest assured they are livid that their brand new stadium has been sullied with two horrendous losses.
It might not get much better for the Yankees, either. It turns out that a jet stream going through the stadium may turn it into an extreme hitter’s park. If New York’s pitchers aren’t on their game, a lot of balls are going to fly out of there on a regular basis. The new Yankee Stadium may be a billion dollar bandbox, and that’s going to provide plenty of interesting outcomes.
