Manny Ramirez the Latest Suspended Baseball Player

It seems that once revered baseball players are dropping like flies these days. First, there was the news that Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte used steroids and HGH, though Clemens still denies it. Just recently, the news came out Alex Rodriguez, perhaps on his way to being considered the best baseball player of all time, used steroids when in Texas. With A-Rod set to return to action after hip surgery and with a book about him just written, all the media attention was focused on him. That is, it was until the news broke that Manny Ramirez has been suspended 50 games for breaking Major League Baseball’s drug policy. Another famed player has a huge black mark on their resume.

Now, to be fair Ramirez wasn’t suspended for using steroids. However, the drug he did test positive for, a women’s fertility drug of all things, is used by people when they are coming off a steroid cycle. Ramirez says he was given a prescription by a doctor that contained the drug, but considering the nature of the substance in question, that seems dubious. With all the other players that have tested positive for banned substances in recent years, Ramirez’s excuses ring hollow.

As with all the other players that have tested positive for banned substances, Ramirez now has a cloud hanging over him. He was always be considered a “dirty player” and a cheater. Despite his status as one of the best right handed hitters in recent memory, some folks will refuse to vote him into the Hall of Fame. This suspension is also quite surprising considering who the person in question is. Manny Ramirez has always been considered goofy and carefree. Some have even classified him as oblivious and aloof. He seemed like one of the last people who would be using steroids. However, if baseball’s recent history has taught us anything, it’s that nobody is above suspicion when it comes to steroids at this point. Far too many “clean” players have turned out to be less than clean. Manny Ramirez is just the latest of the bunch, and his legacy is now tarnished in the eyes of most.

Will Manny’s suspension change the odds on the Dodgers?
