Tom Brady back on Field, Leads Pats to Victory

tom-brady new england patriotsApproximately one year ago, Tom Brady’s season ended in the first quarter of the first game of the 2008 NFL season with a knee injury. He played his first meaningful game since then on Monday, and while he looked a little hesitant under the pass rush, he still managed to have success.

Despite trailing the Buffalo Bills for most of the game, the New England Patriots were able to pull off a last minute victory thanks to a Brady touchdown pass to Benjamin Watson.
All in all, Brady threw the ball 53 times, completing 39 passes for 378 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

Considering the fact than in 2007 he set the single season record for touchdown passes with 50, that isn’t too surprising. Brady has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for years now and having him back is great for the league.

While people like to root against the Pats, as they often do when it comes to dynasties, nobody of any moral fibre wants to see players get hurt. We want them on the field, throwing interceptions or fumbling.

Not that Brady does either of those things very often, and he should be fine this season and get more comfortable with each passing game. However, that might not be enough for the Patriots to return to their Super Bowl winning ways. They still struggled to beat the Bills at home 25-24, a team most expected New England would obliterate.

Their defense looked a bit shaky at times, and one must wonder whether or not they will miss Richard Seymour, whom they traded to the Oakland Raiders for a (likely high) 2011 first round pick.

Not to say the Pats won’t compete. They are on a short list of teams expected to win the Super Bowl along with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the San Diego Chargers, who also struggled in week one, the Indianapolis Colts, the New York Giants, and the Philadelphia Eagles, who just suffered an injury to their quarterback in Donovan McNabb.

Of course, as last year’s Arizona Cardinals showed us, any team can make it to the Super Bowl if they’ve got enough talent. Maybe even the Detroit Lions some day. Right now, the Patriots have the talent to win another title, and their hopes start with the return of their All-Pro quarterback.
