Yankees Win Twice at the Weekend to Take 3-1 Series Lead

ny yankees stadium 300x199 Yankees Win Twice at the Weekend to Take 3 1 Series LeadThe first two games of the World Series between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies were split.

So, the two teams headed to Philadelphia for games three through five. Games three and four were this weekend, and they couldn’t have gone better for New York.

The Yankees took both games on the road, and now have a 3-1 lead in the series. One more win, and they are once again champions.

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte struggled early in game three, staking the Phillies to a 3-0 lead. However, the Yanks came roaring back as last year’s playoffs hero Cole Hamels had another rough start in this postseason.

In the end, the Yankees won 8-5. Game four, on the other hand, went down to the wire. The Phillies trailed 4-3 in the eighth, but then Pedro Feliz hit a game tying home run. Unfortunately for Philly, in the ninth inning Brad Lidge had trouble with the Yankees’ potent lineup. Alex Rodriguez, so many times a postseason goat, hit a go ahead double, which was followed by a two out hit by Jorge Posada. New York won 7-4.

In game five, game one star Cliff Lee returns to the mound for the Phillies. They’ll need another great performance to keep their hopes alive. Otherwise, they’ll have to watch the Yankees celebrate on their home field. New York counters with A.J. Burnett, who pitched well in game two and is on short rest.

Will he be able to handle it? Will the Phillies salvage their repeat hopes? They will have to win on Monday to do so. Otherwise, the Yankees are World Series champions.
