New York Yankees Win World Series

ny yankees stadium1 New York Yankees Win World SeriesThe Major League Baseball season came to an end on Wednesday, and the team left standing was the New York Yankees. In the offseason, they paid big money for C.C. Sabathia, A.J. Burnett, and Mark Teixeira to try and restore themselves as the powerhouse of baseball. Winning the World Series certainly goes a long way toward doing just that.

The Yankees won game six at home 7-3 behind six RBI from Hideki Matsui, who was named World Series MVP. Aging pitcher Andy Pettitte, perhaps in his last season, beat Pedro Martinez, also perhaps in his last season, to give the Yankees the 4-2 series win over the Philadelphia Phillies. The Yankees remain the last team to repeat as World Series champs.

This was also the first World Series title for Alex Rodriguez, who has in the past held the undeserved moniker of a postseason choker. He performed well in this year’s playoffs, which will hopefully finally dispel those notions. This is also the 27th World Series in Yankees history, which is a record.

So now, the baseball season comes to a close, with the New York Yankees the champions as they often have been in the past. To fans of other teams, they have long served as the “villains” of MLB, the team everybody else roots against. Winning this year’s World Series only solidifies that position.

Now, fans won’t just be rooting for their teams to win it all, but to beat the Yankees on their way to doing it. All that said, congratulations are in order for the New York Yankees on a fine season. Enjoy the title for now, as everybody will be gunning for you next year.
