Snow Withstanding The Premiership Promises An Enticing Weekend

Premiership Football SnowIt remains to be seen how many of this weekend’s Premiership matches survive the severe weather conditions gripping the country at the moment.

Whilst most if not all of the Premiership grounds are now equipped with under soil heating to keep the pitch in good enough condition to host a football match, it is the surrounding roads and streets which may be deemed too unsafe for the thousands of fans who will flock the game.

If all games go ahead we can look forward to seven Premiership matches on Saturday. A couple of selections stand out which might be worth combining and backing in an accumulator bet.

Wigan V Aston Villa

Aston Villa (13/10) travel to the DW Stadium to take on a Wigan side bound to be full of confidence after taking Hull City apart 4-1 in their last match. But providing Villa can take a strong side up to Wigan with no injuries, then the likes of Ashley Young, Gabby Agbonlahor, and John Carew should prove too much for Roberto Martinez’s side.

Betting Prediction: 1-2 Aston Villa @ 9.00

Fulham V Portsmouth

Fulham (3/5) play host to crisis club of the moment Portsmouth and look set to continue their fine home form this season which has seen them lose only two games at Craven Cottage so far. Portsmouth are in disarray a fact compounded by the late payment of the player’s wages this month. They are looking increasingly like a lame duck despite the recent appointment of Avram Grant as manager.

Betting Prediction: 2-0 Fulham @ 6.00

UPDATE: This game has been called off owing to safety fears concerning the areas around Craven Cottage.

Birmingham V Man United

Manchester United (8/15) travel to in-form Birmingham for the Saturday evening kick-off at St. Andrews and Alex Ferguson will no doubt be demanding a performance from his players to make up for the shock defeat at home to Leeds at the weekend. Birmingham City are currently unbeaten in twelve matches in all competitions, which is an incredible record, but the time has come for that run to come to an end.

Betting Prediction: 1-2 Man United @ 8.50

Liverpool V Tottenham Hotspur

The big game of the weekend is at Anfield when Liverpool take on Champions League chasing Tottenham. Tottenham (3/1) are great odds for this match and simply can’t be ignored as Liverpool have faltered all season and pressure grows on Rafa Benitez. Spurs are definitely capable of grabbing a couple of goals against this unsteady Liverpool defence.

Betting Prediction: 3-2 Liverpool @ 26.00

UPDATE: Liverpool has requested this game to be posponed.  Discussions are ongoing with the Premier League.  More info as soon as it arrives.
