Ascendant Cagliari will Prove Too Much For Fiorentina

Cagliari Ascendant Cagliari will Prove Too Much For Fiorentina

Cagliari take on Fiorentina at home this Sunday. And an interesting clash it could turn out to be with just one point separating these two mid table sides.  Cagliari currently lie in 7th place in Serie A on 31 points, while Fiorentina is in 9th position.

The match is interesting for two reasons. First, Cagliari has a chance to leapfrog over Juventus if the latter lose or draw against Lazio. Second, as Juventus don’t play till Sunday evening, a win for Cagliari will only add to the pressure on Juventus’ manager Ciro Ferrara to ensure they beat Lazio.

With two wins and two draws from their last four games, home advantage plus a game in hand over Juventus, Cagliari will want to push hard. The question is, will they?

They will, if their chief – Allegri – has anything to do with it. More so now that he’s had his contract renewed. “This week, a two-year agreement was formalised with the coach as part of careful planning for the future of our team. Cagliari is flattered and proud by the attention given to our coach by a large club, but confirms that Allegri will remain on the Rossoblu bench until 2011.”

What about Fiorentina?  While their Champions League hopes continue next month, they haven’t really made the same impact in Serie A. Can they make a difference when they travel to Sardinia? A win against Cagliari could push them to 7th place level on points with Juventus, at least temporarily.

However, despite Fiorentina signing on loan, their Brazilian defender Felipe from Udinese at the beginning of the month, they lost their last two Serie A games. That said, they beat Lazio 3-0 in the Coppa Italia last week to go through to the Semi Finals. This will boost their confidence.

Cagliari are unbeaten in their last five matches whilst Fiorentina have been woefully inconsistent, winning four and losing three of their last seven games.  With home advantage and strong recent form Cagliari have been in the ascendancy in recent weeks.  Expect that to continue this weekend.

PartyBets.com Prediction: Cagliari to win and under 2.5 goals scored in the game at 3.70.
